Going Solo


In 2000 I made,‘I Vant to be Alone’ Edinburgh Festival Fringe. In 2003,  ‘Rumpelstiltskin at the

Fairy tale Laundry’, which has since toured to                   

Prague, Australia and throughout UK and Ireland. In 2004, ‘Jazz Mouse’  premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe and has toured throughout  the UK, Ireland and Austrailia.

It all began with East Lothian Youth Theatre - then with a BA in Creative Arts from Nottingham Poly. I then travelled to Russia for postgraduate study in acting at The State Institute of Theatre and Cinematography, Moscow (VGIK).


Back in Scotland, I acted and was musician for

Theatre Workshop,The Tramway, Grid Iron’s   ‘Gargantua’ and co-wrote and performed ‘Mongrel’,   New York Fringe Award for best Drama/Comedy and was a regular ‘Bongo Club Player’ at the infamous Bongo Club Cabaret (1997 - 2000 New Street, Edinburgh). During this time I was also tentatively dipping my toes into the world of Puppets:

Peter Pan, Tam ‘o’ Shanter with The Edinburgh  Puppet Lab, ‘The Witches’, Leicester Haymarket Theatre.



From 2005-2009 I worked

as a director, designer,

performer, illustrator,

workshops facilitator and

props maker  for a variety

of companies:

National Theatre of Scotland, Grid Iron, Vanishing Point, Citizens Theatre, Edinburgh College of Art, Puppet Lab.


In 2006 I collaborated with Rick Conte and Richard Medrington  designing, making, and co-directing ‘The Man Who  Planted Trees’  and I  continue to be an associate artist of Puppetstate Theatre Company.


In 2008 I was commissioned by TAG Theatre to create ‘Museum of Dreams.’A puppet performance Installation. I have since worked with Puppet Lab, National Theatre of Scotland, Yugen Puppets and Puppetstate Theatre Company.  ‘Cloud Man’, made in 2010, was selected to be part of the prestigious Made in Scotland Showcase 2011 and is currently touring Internationally. It is appearing as part of Southbank Centre’s Winter Programme 2012.

In Summer 2012 I was performer, deviser, puppet and props maker and designer and musician for National Theatre London Inside out Festival ‘Cupboard of Surprises’. Part of the 2012 Cultural Olympiad.


2013 - Will see the development of a new show and illustrated book in collaboration with Lewis Hetherington,

‘ The Secret Life of Suitcases’.
